Words From a Purple Mind

Input on the important topics …to me of course

It’s not about the number of followers…

This is just my two cents so take it as you may.

I haven’t written a blog that focuses on just Twitter but due to the extreme number of tweets I’ve seen since yesterday I thought this was needed. Since yesterday there has been many tweets about a site called tweetgreeter. I am in no way recommending the site since I think it’s a joke. The point of the site is to just add followers as fast as you can.

Why would any one want to gain all those followers especially if they have nothing in common?

I personally do not think people should join Twitter just to gain followers. People should join Twitter to join in on the conversation. Follow fellow tweeters that you think are interesting not because everyone else says so. (Example. I follow @chrisbrogan & @guykawasaki because I think their tweets & blogs are very valuable. They almost always provides tidbits that I am interested in) Do not gain a bunch of followers just to prance around saying that you have the most followers. I mean really now, how are you being effective?

I follow people that I think have some of the same interests as me and/or provide great information. I do not follow people that spam me with the same tweet over and over trying to sell me their product. I don’t follow people that send me constant DM’s either. Before I follow anyone I do check their tweet page first and check to make sure that it’s a person of interest.

I also ask questions on twitter when I need help and I must say there are some wonderful people that are willing to answer your questions. (Ex: I had problems with my old computer awhile back @QualityFrog, @frontofmonitor, & @coated were all great in helping me resolve my issues. Now that shows how they communicate and provide value to others)

So come on, join in on the conversation but please don’t be a spammer.

What do you think? Do you think it’s all about the number of followers or the conversation?
